Another LTTE abduction attempt fails.

An abortive attempt by the LTTE to abduct two civilians in the general area of VANDARAMOOLAI, BATTICALOA has been in vane when those two victims fled from the LTTE and surrendered to the troops on duty at the SITTANDY roadblock on 01 April 2005 around 8.30 a.m.
The two victims have told the troops those alleged LTTE abductors first blindfolded and then attempted to abduct them towards SANDIVELI on BATTICALOA Main Supply Route (MSR) on Friday (01) evening.
However, the victims have shown resistance and managed to escape from the LTTE before reaching the troops to report the matter. They have further reveled that their National Identity Cards have been taken by the LTTE.
Name & particulars of the escapees are withheld for obvious security reasons and questions of human rights.

Unidentified gunmen kill civilian.

A civilian has been shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the general area of CHENKALADI, BATTICALOA on 01 April 2005 around 6.30 p.m., says a complaint made at the Police.
According to the complainant, THASIS SUSAIDASAN, two unidentified gunmen who arrived on a push bicycle had shot the victim at close range using a pistol in front of a video center and fled the location.
The victim, PUTTHUSAMINI KUGADASAN alias SATHYAN (23), of KALAIVANI VEEDIYA, UMAVIL ROAD, KOMMATHURAI, has died on the spot due to firing.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that PUTTHUSAMINI MOHANDAS, brother of the deceased is a member of the Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP).
The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) was to be informed. The ERAVUR Police are conducting investigations.

Ammo found from LTTE Double Cab.

Troops on duty at the BLACK BRIDGE Entry/Exit point have recovered two ammunition hidden inside an LTTE vehicle on 01 April 2005 around 10.20.a.m.
These two T-56 ammunition were found by the troops when they conducted their routine check on the Double Cab (NPHG 1274) carrying LTTE cadres from BATTICALOA to OMANTHAI across the entry/exit point with Army security escort on Friday (01).
The vehicle and LTTE men have been released by troops keeping ammunition in the custody.

Abducted teenager escapes from LTTE and surrenders to Police.

A sixteen-year old boy who had been abducted from the general area of MUTTUR and detained under LTTE custody for four days has escaped LTTE detention and surrendered to the Police seeking protection on 01 April 2005 around 5.00 p.m.
According to the victim, he had been tied on chains and employed by the LTTE as a labourer after being abducted on 28 March evening while he was in the premises of KALI KOVIL, TRINCOMALEE.
However, this teenaged boy has managed to unfasten iron chains and escape from the LTTE before he was guided to the JETTY Police Post by two Muslim youths who met him on the way.

President Chandrika Kumaratunga first & Wimal Weerawansa second! Ranil last!

At the awards ceremony for year 2005 of SLIM (Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing) it was announced that the President Ms. Chandrika Kumaratunga was chosen as the leader of the year and Mr. Wimal Weerawansa, Propaganda Secretary and the Leader of the Group of Parliamentarians of the JVP was chosen to the second place.

Prime Minister Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse took the third place while Mr. Karu Jayasuriya, Deputy Leader of the UNP came fourth and Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe, Leader of the UNP and former prime minister came fifth. Only five names had been nominated.
